Marketing Automation

Marketing automation workflows

A useful workflow is a decision system, not just a timed series of messages. It connects a trigger to a clear customer or business outcome.

A simple workflow anatomy

  1. Define the event that starts the workflow.
  2. Choose the minimum data needed to make useful decisions.
  3. Map branches only where the experience genuinely changes.
  4. Specify actions and waiting periods.
  5. Define an exit condition and a measurement plan.

Common workflow families

Useful starting points include welcome, onboarding, lead nurture, sales handoff, abandoned-intent, post-purchase and re-engagement flows. The exact sequence should reflect the business model rather than a generic template.

Avoid automation for automation's sake

Every additional branch creates maintenance cost. Start with the smallest workflow that can produce a useful result, then add complexity only when behavior or data supports it.

For audience logic, continue to email segmentation. For a platform built around branching automations, see our ActiveCampaign review.
